Who is Driving Purpose Driven
It never ceases to amaze me how when some critics can’t refute us, they disparage our writing or editing skills or make railing accusations that they cannot back up with scripture or they twist it to mean exactly what they want…hmmmmmm, sounds exactly what RW and Satan himself are so good at doing. It’s basically: ‘destroy the messenger tactics,’ which I have experienced for many years as well and have come to ignore. If I was off spiritually or biblically in any way, I couldn’t be more blessed than to have a humble man of God like you with the kindness of Christ, His discernment and His wisdom to call me to repentance, correction and then to pray with me and for me. You are so accomplished in so many ways- what others now call a ‘Renaisance man’ but most importantly, you love the Lord passionately and have laid down your life to preach and teach His Truth! Glory to God! (I wonder just how many words I just misspelled! Some of these petty critics are going to actually try to tell God what He “does wrong,” only to hear: “depart from Me for I never knew you!”
Love you James!
First, I apologize for the pseudonym. I am an ordained A/G minister who is not quite able to leave yet (though I am looking for an opportunity to do so). I have done work for the A/G in a number of capacities, including writing books and articles for them. I have several articles published online critiquing the Emerging Church movement (no A/G publisher was interested). I am in the process of doing research for an article which would profit from information about the salaries of General Council leadership as well as Southern Missouri District leadership. I am informed enough to know that these salaries (with benefits) is exorbitant and way out of line with the average salaries of denominational leaders. I intend to publish this information even though I may lose my credentials for “having an uncooperative spirit.” As an ordained minister I should know how to uncover this information but I do not. If you could uncover and provide this information on your site I would be indebted and would use it wisely.
On a different topic, I appreciate the comments on your site about Celebrate Recovery. A good book which is quite helpful in shedding light on such programs is “12 Steps to Destruction” by the Bobgans (not sure if it’s still in print).
By the way, I do not mind any critiquing you do of the Assemblies of God. If the criticism is accurate we deserve correction and if it is inaccurate it will not stick.
Blessings,
“Will”
Thanks for taking the time to point out the grammar errors that I made and not James. Personally if this is the only reason you have for trying to slander someone then how do these verses apply to your theology in terms of having “qualifications”:
1Cr 3:19 NKJV – “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their [own] craftiness”;”
and
1Cr 1:27 NKJV – “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;”
1Cr 1:28 NKJV – “and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,”
1Cr 1:29 NKJV – “that no flesh should glory in His presence.”
I never claimed to be a biblical scholar and honestly your “intellectual” ridicule is not very Christ like at all their “brother”. And by the way your “critique” should be by using scripture instead of your opinion.
2Ti 3:16 NKJV – “All Scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,”
2Ti 3:17 NKJV – “that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
If you really want to correct me or James for that matter use the bible, since that is the standard we go by. Mans standards for everything is flawed.
Like I stated before thanks for letting me know what I need to fix. Its much appreciated
.
Thanks for the suggestion and for letting me know to fix it.
Ok so sue me I misspelled a word. You might do the same after coding pages for websites and then trying to go to text. I am not a English major but thank God I do not have to be one to be saved by Jesus!
Mel my beef and I know James feels the same way is the fact that many of those programs are steering people away from a real relationship with the Lord through Jesus Christ. I too came from being abused as a child with habits. I am not perfect and I will not be until the day Christ calls me home. However I am far from what I use to be by the Grace of God towards me in Jesus Christ. It has been through His word alone that I have found healing and safety with the ability to move forward with my life.
I wonder how did people ever get over things in their life with out the 12 Step or Celebrate Recovery Programs?

James,
Thanks so much for your article “Is Your Church Going Purpose Driven?” and “how to tell”.
It is excellent.
In fact, I reprinted it on my blog site–www.wheresgodinallofthis.wordpress.com.
My husband and I were involved in a church which went “purpose driven” and we were basically driven out along with about 50% of the membership at the time. It happened suddenly after our pastor took a training course at Saddleback Church in California.
It took us a long time to get back into church. We live in a predominately Mormon area, so good gospel preaching churches are hard to come by. The devil would love to keep the Christians side tracked with false doctrine and also fighting among themselves.
As far as the Gospel preaching churches go, they don’t want to work together and fight each other because the pastors are afraid that another church will “steal” their members.
The Body of Christ (the church) is in bad shape in Southern Utah.
Thanks for your website and your stand against the “Warren Gospel”

James Sundquist:
I was directed to your website by a dear Christian friend of mine who has been completely duped by your garbage and who subsequently is repeating your misguided and erroneous ramblings to unsuspecting souls who would otherwise benefit from programs such as Celebrate Recovery, Life’s Healing Choices, etc. I feel incredibly saddened that a person such as yourself – who purports to love Christ and his teachings – feels that they must attempt to destroy programs that are having significant benefits in the lives of folks who may be addicts, who may have been hurt, who harbor anger, etc.
For someone who flaunts his so-called qualifications as much as you do on your website Home page, maybe you should look at your website Home page with a critical eye . If your so-called research into Biblical principles is as in-depth and valid as your writing and editing qualifications, skills, and quality control, then the following blunders (that were noted in just a few seconds flat) indicate how poor a Biblical scholar you are and how little we should trust your findings:
A) Paragraph 2: “He has wrote and produced….” For goodness sake – he has wrote? My 9-year old granddaughter knows that is bad grammar…!!!
B) Hyperlink entitled: “Buy The Global Peace Plan Book” where the ‘mouse-over’ against it reads: “James Sundquist Books, CD’s and DVD’s”. For heaven’s sake, why would you treat the plural of “CD” and “DVD” any differently than the plural of “Book”? It is obvious that you are completely unaware that the plural of a capitalized acronym simply requires the addition of a lower case “s”. By adding the apostrophe “s” (ie: CD’s), you are indicating that something belongs to the CD or the DVD, not that there are multiples of them.
C) “Article Catagories” – really? How about “Categories”?
As noted above, these blunders were noted in a few seconds flat…!!!
With regard to critiquing your inane ramblings, when I reached the paragraphs where you were mistakenly superimposing the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-Step “anonymous” moniker onto the CR program, I realized that there was no purpose other than to use the material to show the poor misguided souls whom you have duped just how inaccurate you are. Because the time it would take to respond to you would be better put to use in being of value to the community of the church, that route is clear to me. I will, however, make every effort possible to show you up for the charlatan that you are to those who appear to be in danger of falling under the charm of your rhetoric.
My prayers are for your enlightenment.
God Bless you.
